In hindsight, ExxonMobil came out pretty much unscathed compared to BP, which had to sell off its west coast and Texas refineries, as well as divest all of its west coast gas stations. BP had to retreat to just a portion of the territory that they once had, and even to this day advertise that they are in America to stay, as not to worry investors of a complete pull out or something. When working with oil over water, everything should be checked three times over to prevent accidents, I would reckon!
